FAQ & blind care
Common questions, plus how to look after your cafe blinds and zip track blinds so they last.
General
Is the measure and quote really free?
Yes. We come to your home or business anywhere from Southeast Melbourne to Phillip Island, measure up, show you samples and give you a quote. There's no charge and no obligation.
What areas do you service?
Southeast Melbourne to Phillip Island, including Pakenham, Koo Wee Rup, Grantville, Corinella, Coronet Bay, Wonthaggi, Inverloch and Phillip Island (Cowes, Rhyll, Newhaven) and San Remo. If you're not sure, call 1800 301 026.
Are your blinds made to measure?
Yes. Everything we supply is custom made to the measurements we take on site, so it fits properly, including odd-sized and out-of-square windows.
Who will install my blinds?
The person who measures and quotes your job is the person who installs it, so nothing gets lost in translation.
Do you clean up after the install?
Yes. We tidy up when the job's done and take the packaging and mess away with us.
Can you motorise my blinds?
Many indoor blinds, outdoor blinds and awnings can be motorised and run from a remote or wall switch. Ask us at your measure and quote.
Caring for clear PVC cafe blinds
Can I roll up my PVC blinds when they're wet?
Try not to. Water trapped in a rolled-up blind can't evaporate, and over time it damages the PVC. Let the blinds dry while they're down, then roll them up.
How do I clean clear PVC blinds?
Wet the blind with plain water, then wipe it down with a soft microfibre cloth. If you need a detergent, use something gentle such as a wool wash. For tougher marks, a cleaner made specifically for clear PVC (such as Vuplex, sold at hardware and auto stores) cleans and protects the surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners and scourers.
What are the straps for?
Each rope-and-pulley blind comes with support straps. Clip them in at the top each time you raise the blind so they carry the weight of the roll instead of the rope. When the blinds are down, unclip the top straps so they don't scratch the PVC.
How should I tie off my blinds?
Thread the rope from the bottom bar through the eye of the zip and tie it off securely at the tie-off point on the side. Always tie off both sides.
How do I roll them up properly?
Raise the blind in a smooth, even roll, adjusting the ropes as you go. If the PVC folds or bunches over itself, lower it and roll it up again.
Should I leave them up or down?
Down, as much as practical. Blinds that spend most of their time down keep their shape, stay clearer and last longer. Pull them down again after each use.
How do I look after the zips?
Spray the zips with silicone spray about once a month so they keep running freely. Near the beach, rinse salt off first.
Caring for zip track blinds
Can I roll up zip track blinds when wet?
It's best not to. Water left in a rolled-up blind can't dry out and will damage the fabric over time.
What are the storm catches for?
Each blind has storm catches on both sides. Lock them whenever the blind is down. They hold the blind in place and stop it rolling up in strong wind.
How do I clean zip track blinds?
Hose them down, or use a pressure cleaner on its lowest setting held well back. For stubborn marks use a gentle detergent like wool wash, or a clear PVC cleaner such as Vuplex on clear panels.
Do the tracks need maintenance?
Spray the tracks with silicone spray about once a month so the blinds glide smoothly. In coastal areas, rinse salt and sand out of the tracks with fresh water first.
Wind, weather and the coast
Should I raise outdoor blinds in a storm?
Yes. Outdoor blinds are built to handle wind, but if a storm or very strong wind is forecast, roll them up to protect them.
Do outdoor blinds need extra care near the beach?
Salt and sand build up on fabric, tracks and zips. A gentle rinse with fresh water every few weeks, plus the monthly silicone spray, keeps everything running smoothly and looking good.
